The NAAFE Forum 2023 is being hosted by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) in collaboration with the NOAA Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC). Logistics

Following is logistical information to start your planning for the 2023 NAAFE Forum in Woods Hole, May 23 – May 26, 2023.

VENUE

NAAFE 2023 will be held at WHOI and the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, MA. Registration and plenary sessions will take place in Redfield Auditorium (45 Water Street) and the poster session and banquet at the MBL Swope Center (5 North Street).Concurrent sessions will be at Redfield Auditorium, Smith Labs Conference Room (86 Water St.) and MBL Candle House (127 Water St.). All buildings are within a short walking distance.

PARKING

Parking is very limited in Woods Hole Village and tightly regulated. It’s recommended that you plan to stay in Woods Hole. For anyone that asked for permit parking in advance, you can pick up your permit at the registration table for parking at NOAA (next to the NOAA Aquarium. Look for the NAAFE Sign. For last minute requests, you can ask at the registration table, and we may be able to provide limited parking at the WHOI Quissett Campus. The WHOI shuttle will be available, but times are limited. See WHOI Shuttle Schedule.

Directions, Maps, Local and Historical Woods Hole Information

Maps will be provided at the registration table and also can be found here.

Air Travel

The two airports nearest to Woods Hole are Boston Logan Airport (BOS) and Providence T.F. Green Airport (PVD). Both airports are just under 80 miles from Woods Hole, and both offer excellent bus service (Peter Pan Bus Lines and Plymouth & Brockton Bus Lines) to Falmouth and Woods Hole. Please check bus schedules and book well ahead of time.

Ground Transportation

Peter Pan Bus Lines and Plymouth & Brockton Bus Lines is available to Falmouth/Woods Hole from Boston South Station and Boston Logan Airport as well as Providence Bus Terminal only (not from T.F. Green Airport). At Boston’s Logan Airport, Peter Pan buses leave directly for Falmouth and Woods Hole, taking about 1.5 - 2 hours.  The bus stop for “scheduled buses” can be found right outside each terminal (exit ground floor of the baggage claim area) at Boston Logan Airport. You must book on-line in advance for bus service, and it is a good idea to book early! Both airports also offer many rental car services.

Lodging Information

The main accommodation for the NAAFE 2023 Forum, May 23-26, 2023, will be at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in the heart of Woods Hole, MA. Two additional hotels have agreed to block rooms for our meeting at the negotiated federal rates: the Sands of Time located in Woods Hole and Inn on the Square located in Falmouth. The Treehouse Lodge and the Woods Hole Inn in Woods Hole will provide a special 10% discount. Limited shuttle service may be available between the Inn on the Square and Woods Hole. Limited parking will be available at WHOI.

Note: MBL has over 45 single and double rooms available and will host the opening reception, banquet dinner, poster session and some of the conference sessions. All guests must be registered for the forum and MBL meal plans are required. Housing and meals for single rooms are $205 / night and $131 / night for a shared double room. If you request a shared double room each guest must register and pay separately. Roommate preferences can be made at the time of booking. If two persons mention each other on their reservation forms, MBL will put them together. If no preferred roommate is identified on a reservation, MBL will provide a match. The meal price has been discounted to not include any meals already covered by the NAAFE conference registration. A $53 registration fee is required for all staying at MBL. Includes online registration, payment processing, Wi-Fi, parking permit processing as available, access to the MBL/WHOI Library and conference coordination assistance. MBL is located next to picturesque Eel Pond and is within close walking distance to the WHOI venues. Unfortunately, no children or pets allowed.
